The Reduplication Process

The concept of reduplication originated as an “out of the box” process that resulted from a client request.  The issue our client was facing surrounded a very large hosted review in which the data set was only allowed to be deduplicated within each custodian due to government parameters. As the review progressed and large numbers of contract attorneys began reviewing data, we began to find contradictory annotations against duplicate items within the database.  Naturally, these contradictions created issues with the case.

To resolve this situation, UHY Advisors loaded all of the data into an “offline” database, created a duplication key for each item, and then deduplicated across the entire data set, promoting only the non-duplicates to the review platform.  After the review was complete, we cascaded the review annotations back down to our offline database, matching the reviewed items to the offline items based on the duplicate key value.  This allowed our client to conduct a review across a fully deduplicated data set, yet still produce to the Government complete mailboxes, broken out by custodian.

Shortly after the completion of this project, UHY Advisors formalized this process, naming it reduplication.  Although this mechanism for review will not work for all cases, it is by far the most cost-effective way to minimize the amount of data that requires review, in turn minimizing the number of contractors needed to complete the work and.the overall cost for the document review process.

UHY Advisors can help you gain maximum efficiency and value from every matter.
