Financial Investigation and Analysis of Complex Bank-driven Transactions Engaged in by a Fortune 100 Company

The firm required expert support in unwinding over 125 structured finance transactions orchestrated by several major financial institutions and company officers in what was a multi-billion dollar fraud involving a major Fortune 100 energy corporation.

UHY Advisors’ evaluated these very complex transactions to determine their true economic substance, propriety of accounting, and impact on the financial statements of the company. UHY’s professionals reviewed relevant deal documents, communications between participants, operating reports, financing terms, financial records of the corporation, credit files, relevant accounting standards, valuation reports, tax regulations, and other relevant information.
UHY uncovered a web of illegal and fraudulent transactions and the resulting improper financial treatment on the books of the corporation and in its public quarterly and annual reports. The project required review of transactions that were orchestrated in several countries with both US and international banking groups. UHY quantified the impact of the improper accounting on publicly reported results in the company’s prior SEC Filings.
END RESULT
As a result of the work of UHY team-members, several of the defendants have settled the lawsuit, resulting in the largest class action settlement to date.
