Computer forensics, most commonly called digital forensics, applies a scientific, analytical, and methodical process to digital media to locate key information, or to establish a factual pattern in preparation for legal review. It often involves the investigation of computer systems (hard drives, floppy drives, floppy disks, CDs, DVDs or external USBs) to determine whether they are or have been used for illegal or unauthorized activities.
Approximately 40 percent of all electronic text-based communications are now done via text messaging. Our forensic technicians extract data and establish patterns from text messaging activities, including instant messaging and text messages sent via cellular phone or other similar hand-held devices.
UHY Advisors' Computer Forensics Team ensures that the work is done in a manner that adheres to the standards of evidence admissible in a court of law.
Typical Digital Forensic Services Include:
- The location and identification of deleted, altered, or password protected information and the recovery of hidden or deleted e-mails, pictures, and documents;
- Demonstration of inappropriate computer use by employees, including improper use of email, the use of the web to view or research inappropriate content, download files and chat room or instant message history;
- Determine use of business-owned computing equipment and systems for work unrelated to company business;
- Theft of company-owned intellectual property, electronic data, or records relating to the theft of physical property;
- The gathering of digital evidence to show proof of illegal or prohibited activities;
- Proof of sexual or other harassment via e-mail, instant messaging, SMS text exchange, and other forms of electronic communication;
